Los Angeles Municipal Judge Maxine F. Thomas has been elected by her peers to serve as the 1986 presiding judge of the nation’s largest Municipal Court system. Thomas will be the seventh woman and fourth black judge to hold the post since it was created in 1926. She is the founder and supervisor of the Night Small Claims Court and co-founder of the Night Civil Court and Olympic Visitors’ Small Claims Court. Judge George W. Trammell, who is assigned to the downtown Criminal Courts Building conducting felony preliminary hearings, will serve as assistant presiding judge.
