A measure designed to combat discrimination against AIDS victims was signed by San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein. The mayor said the law will further San Francisco’s reputation as “a model for the rest of the world” regarding its AIDS programs. The San Francisco law makes it illegal to discriminate against AIDS victims in housing, employment, medical services or business. Officials had reported 19 complaints of discrimination against acquired immune deficiency syndrome victims during the last three months. Last year, the same number of complaints were filed. The measure’s principal sponsor, Supervisor Harry Britt, predicted that other cities will follow the lead of California in adopting such anti-bias measures. Berkeley, Oakland and Hayward are considering similar proposals.
