PCAA Roundup : San Jose State Ties Nevada Las Vegas

K.C. Clark scored on a 3-yard run with 8:42 left in the third quarter Saturday night to give San Jose State a 16-16 tie with Nevada Las Vegas in the season finale for both teams in San Jose.

The Spartans ended the season at 2-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. while the Rebels ended at 5-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the PCAA.

San Jose State took a 3-0 lead early in the game when Tony Brown kicked a 46-yard field goal. The Rebels went ahead 7-3 on Chris Green’s one-yard run with 4:15 left in the first quarter.

Utah State 40, New Mexico State 23--Sophomore kicker Dene Garner booted four field goals and quarterback Brett Stevens passed for three touchdowns as Utah State trounced New Mexico State at Las Cruces, N.M.

The victory in the season finale for both teams improved Utah State’s record to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference. New Mexico State, which for the second straight year failed to win a conference game, was 0-7 in the PCAA and 1-10.

New Mexico State Coach Fred Zechman was fired after the game. In three seasons, Zechman’s teams posted an overall 8-25 record.

Pacific 36, Weber State 34--Senior nose guard Kim O’Keefe scored a safety and junior kicker Ken Norgaard kicked a 19-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give the Tigers the nonconference win at Stockton.

Pacific finished the season at 5-6, and Weber State closed at 6-5.
