National City Man Dies in Accident
A 50-year-old engineer was fatally injured Sunday when the pickup truck he was driving ran into the back of a heavy-equipment trailer parked by the side of Sweetwater Road, authorities said.
Wayne LeRoy Devel, who lived with his wife in National City, was pronounced dead at Paradise Valley Hospital shortly before 9:30 a.m., about a half-hour after the accident in the 1700 block of Sweetwater Road, deputy coroner Joseph Cogen said.
National City police said they had not determined the cause of the accident. They said the trailer, used for moving heavy equipment like bulldozers, was parked in a construction zone at the time of the crash.
