New Information Officer: G. M. (Mike) Bush, a former staff writer for The Times, has been selected as the city’s public information officer, a $28,284-a-year position that requires him to coordinate all media contact for the city. Bush, 41, helped coordinate Martin Luther King’s Poor People’s Campaign in New York in the 1960s and later earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Cal State Long Beach. In addition to dealing with media inquiries, Bush said he will help provide information about the city’s programs locally and nationwide. He said his first assignment would be to put together information on the city’s Community Oriented Policing program for the CBS news show, “60 Minutes,” in an effort to get show producers to update a segment aired more than three years ago.
