A San Dimas woman has been sentenced in Los Angeles federal court to 300 hours of community service and three years’ probation for her role in a scheme to smuggle Polish citizens into the United States. U.S. District Judge Harry Hupp imposed the sentence against Maria Margaret Zlotnicki, a resident alien from Poland, who pleaded guilty to smuggling charges. Federal investigators said she and her husband, Walter Zlotnicki, a U.S. citizen, schemed to smuggle about a dozen Poles into the United States via Mexico and other countries. The couple also received a portion of the aliens’ paychecks, investigators added. Sentencing for Walter Zlotnicki, who also pleaded guilty, was delayed until Jan. 13.
