The Garberville auto mechanic who lived four days on a mechanical heart pump before receiving a transplant is back in a San Francisco hospital, but officials said he was released Thanksgiving day to spend a few hours with his family. Richard Dallara, 33, returned to the Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment of signs that his body is rejecting his new heart. “I don’t know how much time I have, so as long as I live I’m going to make the best of it,” Dallara said from his hospital bed. “When you get up in the morning, you live for that day. That’s all we have anyway. Sometimes I wake up in the morning, and I just cry because it’s so good to be alive.”
