No. 13 Louisiana State Gets Past Tulane, 31-19
Dalton Hilliard ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns and Jeff Wickersham threw a pair of touchdown passes to tight end Mitch Andrews as 13th-ranked Louisiana State beat Tulane, 31-19, in college football Saturday night.
LSU was a three-touchdown favorite over Tulane, which finished 1-10. LSU is 8-1-1 and plays East Carolina next week and Baylor Dec. 27 in the Liberty Bowl.
Hilliard scored on a three-yard run midway through the first quarter and on a one-yard dive with two seconds left in the game.
Both of the Wickersham-to-Andrews scoring passes covered one yard.
Ron Lewis supplied the other LSU points with a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Senior Ken Karcher replaced freshman Terrence Jones at quarterback midway through the second quarter and sparked Tulane. Karcher drove Tulane 54 yards to a second-quarter touchdown, and 66 yards for a fourth-quarter score. He capped the first drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Wenhold and the second with a nine-yard pass to Marc Zeno.
Karcher’s passing also set up a pair of 24-yard field goals by Wayne Clements.
