Women’s Basketball Roundup : Miller Scores 36 as USC Beats Maryland in Championship Game

Cheryl Miller had 36 points and 13 rebounds to lead USC to 76-54 victory over Maryland in the championship game of the Maryland women’s basketball tournament at College Park, Md.

Miller made 13 of 20 shots from the field and was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line, along with seven steals. Freshman center Cherie Nelson added 11 points and 8 rebounds off the bench as the Trojans (3-0) outrebounded Maryland, 41-26.

UCLA 67, CS Fullerton 52--Sophomore forward Dora Dome scored 19 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Bruins to a victory in the third-place game of the Oregon State women’s basketball tournament at Corvallis, Ore.

CS Long Beach 88, Nevada Reno 46--Junior Cindy Brown scored 15 points, had 9 rebounds and added 5 blocked shots to lead Cal State Long Beach to a nonconference win at Long Beach.

UC Irvine 65, New Mexico State 64--Natalie Crawford’s five-foot jumper gave the Anteaters their only lead of the game with a minute left to play and it stood up as UC Irvine won the championship game of the New Mexico State tournament at Las Cruces, N.M. Crawford led Irvine with 17 points.
