Lashing Out Eyelashes haven’t claimed the spotlight since the ‘60s, when fashion models Twiggy and Penelope Tree drew them on with colored pencils. Now there’s a new twist--paste-on false eyelashes in psychedelic colors. It started as a bit of Halloween madness, but might well find a place in the makeup cases of fashion’s more daring devotees. Mod by Andrea makes “color spikes” lashes in a rainbow of shades, $3.99 in drug stores around the country. And if you’re not stuck on the idea of spikes, Mod also makes a black lace version. Dare to Be Dull Matte, translucent, cool as frosted glass--this new look for nails has been bottled by Shiseido as Mat Top Coat. It’s best suited to short nails, says the company’s Lorraine O’Neill, and can be worn over bright or clear polish. Because of its flat, Lalique-like finish, she recommends frosting only the tips. More flamboyant looks are diagonally striped nails (half matte and half glossy) and alternating matte and high-gloss nails. At specialty and department stores, $7.50. The company also makes a companion matte-finish lipstick, $12.50, to wear under a glossy lip color.
