“Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.” Sex Pistols. Virgin. Does it make sense to buy a CD copy of perhaps the noisiest rock record ever made? As it turns out: yes--if you’ve got any tolerance for the fire-and-fall-back sonic attack of the most aggressive rock. The music, highlighted by a grinding guitar, is still a blur, but Johnny Rotten’s words are surprisingly clear. This 1977 album is not just a punk artifice: However short-lived and hype-ridden the band was, “God Save the Queen” and “Pretty Vacant” highlight one of the most commanding and influential works ever in rock.
