Snowmobiles have been banned from Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California because of a lack of interest. Park spokesman Richard Vance said that although limited access was granted four years ago under an experiment requested by former Interior Secretary James Watt, “The interest just wasn’t there. Snowmobilers simply were not using the park.”

The vehicles had been permitted to use a 19-mile section of unplowed road 45 miles east of Red Bluff. Some cross-country skiers had complained about noise and odors from those snowmobiles that used the route.
