About a dozen city firefighters lifted a small automobile off a critically injured Sherman Oaks woman who was pinned between two cars after being struck by one of them as she stood in a Sherman Oaks street Wednesday morning, Los Angeles police said.

The victim, Lee Helen Weiser, 64, was standing by the curb in the 4600 block of Willis Avenue when a car driven by Juanita Cohen, 61, crossed to the wrong side of the road and struck Weiser, pushing her against a parked car, police said.

Weiser was trapped between the cars for several minutes until firefighters removed Cohen’s automobile. Weiser was taken by a city fire helicopter to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where she was listed in critical condition with two broken legs, a broken arm, fractured ribs and head injuries, according to police and hospital officials.

Cohen, also of Sherman Oaks, suffers from multiple sclerosis and apparently had taken medication that caused her to black out, leaving her no recollection of the accident, Officer George Suviate said. Cohen, who was uninjured, was not cited, Suviate said.
