Former Covina doctor Volney Clenom Morgan, 58, can be tried for the 1982 murder of his wife, Daedra, 35, the 2nd District Court of Appeal has decided. Morgan, who was stripped of his medical license in 1976 for failure to show he was free of drug addiction, was convicted of practicing without a license and possessing controlled substances after his wife died from consuming a variety of drugs. He claimed he was treating her after a suicide attempt. The trial court had dismissed charges on grounds that there was no proof of Morgan causing the woman’s death. The appellate justices ruled, however, that the cause of death was not decided in the first trial, clearing the way for a new trial for either murder or manslaughter.
