West Hollywood : Council to Consider 2 Projects

Share

A wide-ranging agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting is headed by consideration of two major development projects.

A public hearing will be conducted on a proposed expansion that would more than double the size of the Pacific Design Center.

The council is also expected to vote on a conditional-use permit and variance that would permit the Sunset Towers apartment building to be restored and converted into a luxury hotel.

In addition, the council will hear a 20-minute public discussion on a West Hollywood hair salon called J.A.P.P.S. Some residents say the salon’s name is a racial slur and have asked the city to take corrective action.

Also under consideration will be a revision of the city’s policy on doing business with firms that have ties to South Africa. The city is prohibited by its own law from doing business with such firms, but Assistant City Manager Jeri Chenelle has recommended that the city relax the law to allow transactions with companies that are “taking affirmative action” to improve employment and living conditions for their black employees in South Africa.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the West Hollywood Park Auditorium.
