Santa Monica : 2 Public Hearings Scheduled

Share

The City Council on Dec. 10 will conduct public hearings on Santa Monica’s water management plan and to hear protests from property owners who owe the city for repairs made on sidewalks, driveways or curbs in front of their properties.

Proposals within the water management plan, which projects possible water use by the city through the year 2000, include hiring a permanent water conservation coordinator next year and instituting a public education program for conserving water.

The city is obligated by the state to adopt a water plan by Dec. 31. Copies of the proposed plan are available for public review in the city’s water division office. Written protests must be filed with the city clerk before the meeting.

During the other hearing, the council will consider objections to repair work and the assessments made for it.

By city law, property owners must reimburse the city for repairs to damaged sidewalks, driveways or curbs adjacent to their property. The city pays for half the cost of repairs when the damage is caused by tree roots.
