Newport Beach : City Council to Select New Mayor on Monday
The City Council will select a new mayor from among its ranks Monday night.
Philip R. Maurer, a retired Newport Beach junior high school teacher and five-year councilman, currently holds the one-year post.
Maurer, 68, was elected to the council in April, 1980, and ran uncontested in his 1984 bid. He represents District 5, which includes Balboa Island, Eastbluff, Big Canyon and Newport Center.
