Irvine Builder Passes at 65

Herbert Douglas Hoon, an Irvine builder involved in the construction of about 12,000 homes throughout Southern California over 40 years, died Nov. 29, the Times has learned. He was 65.

During his career, he was associated with Aetna Construction and the building of homes in Lakewood and the San Fernando Valley, was president of Bullard Homes Corp., vice president of MB Development Co., formerly Butler Housing Corp; and vice president of Butler Harbour Construction Co.

He was a director of the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California and a member of the National Assn. of Home Builders. While a resident of Lakewood, Hoon had served on the Lakewood City Planning Commission and was active in youth groups. He built the East Lakewood Little League baseball park.

Family members said a memorial fund has been established in his name at the American Heart Assn., Orange County chapter, Santa Ana.
