James Rebuts Pac-10 Critics

Washington football Coach Don James says those who criticize the Pacific-10 Conference overlook the fact that five of its teams will appear in bowls.

James, whose Huskies have a Dec. 30 date with Colorado in the Freedom Bowl at Anaheim, Calif., said balance was the byword for the conference in 1985.

Washington will carry a 6-5 record into the Freedom Bowl against Colorado, 7-4. UCLA, 8-2-1, will play Iowa in the Rose Bowl; Arizona, 8-3, meets Georgia in the Sun Bowl; Arizona State, 8-3, takes on Arkansas in the Holiday Bowl, and USC, 6-5, meets Alabama in the Aloha Bowl.
