Oregon and Arizona officials are restricting the movement of bees from the area around Lost Hills in northwestern Kern County even though California officials have ended the quarantine imposed after Africanized bees were found there last summer. Africanized bees, sometimes called killer bees, were discovered in 12 colonies in Kern County. Bee eradication officials said the latest finds indicate that the bees were not as much of a threat because they were mating with more common European bees. New regulations in Oregon require testing of all beehives that are brought into the state from the former quarantine zone. No bees from the Lost Hills area are being allowed into Arizona.
