The American Medical Assn. reaffirmed its year-old opposition to amateur and professional boxing, but rejected two proposals that specifically attacked collegiate as well as pre-Olympic amateur boxing programs and that contended the sport had caused brain damage in additional athletes in the 12 months since the organization first took its stand.

The substitute measure repeats last year’s resolution to “encourage the elimination of both amateur and professional boxing, a sport in which the primary object is to inflict injury.”
