Frank Sinatra, the original bobby-sox idol, big band balladeer, actor and “Chairman of the Board,” turned 70 today, still active on nightclub and concert stages.

“Ol’ Blue Eyes” was spending the day quietly at his Palm Springs home except for one engagement: a ground breaking with his wife, Barbara, at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, a refuge for sexually abused children.
