Actress Jessica Tandy is expected to resume her role in “Foxfire” tonight at the Ahmanson Theatre, after fainting on stage during the first act of Tuesday night’s performance. The internationally acclaimed actress, who has won a Tony award for her role as the old mountain woman in the play, told her husband and co-star Hume Cronyn at Good Samaritan Hospital on Wednesday that she wanted to make that evening’s performance. But Cronyn’s answer was that she should rest, at least until today. For a number of years, Cronyn said, Tandy, 76, has been on medication for atrial fibrillation, a condition in which the normal rhythmical contractions of the heart’s chambers are interrupted by twitchings. She takes daily medication to correct the problem, he said. And Tuesday night, he said, she “felt unwell” and took the medicine “on an empty stomach” which, in turn, caused her blood pressure to drop.
