Actress Jane Fonda and her husband, Assemblyman Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica), have reacted negatively to the idea of naming a proposed park to honor Vietnam War protesters as the “Jane Fonda Hero-of-the-Nation Park.” The San Diego Union said attorneys for Fonda and Hayden notified Phoenix taxi driver Terry Choate that their clients did not want to be connected with the small memorial park near the Arizona city that Choate proposed to name in honor of Fonda. Choate had written Fonda and Hayden for help with the project. Fonda and Hayden were active in anti-Vietnam War protests. But in a letter from attorney Stanton Stein, Choate was advised that: “Ms. Fonda has not authorized the use of her name in connection with any such project and will not authorize the use of her name in connection with your project. We expect you will immediately cease all further use of our clients’ name or likeness in conjunction with your project.”
