First Holiday Road Check Nets 7 as Drunk Drivers

The California Highway Patrol netted seven drunk drivers this weekend after screening 1,797 people at two roadblocks during the first session of a holiday crackdown on drunk driving, a spokesman said Saturday.

The checkpoints were operated late Friday night and early Saturday morning, one on Imperial Highway two blocks east of Western Avenue, the other in Ontario on Diamond Bar Boulevard north of Golden Springs Drive.

At the Imperial Highway roadblock, 10 Highway Patrol officers and four sheriff’s deputies stopped 1,240 motorists, gave field sobriety tests to five and arrested three for drunk driving. At the Diamond Bar Boulevard stop, 557 were checked, 11 tested and four arrested for drunk driving. In addition, three were cited for possession of alcohol and one for possession of marijuana.
