The Region : Council Bolsters AIDS Anti-Bias Law
The Los Angeles City Council voted to give the city attorney’s office an additional $50,000 to help enforce the city’s recently adopted anti-AIDS discrimination ordinance. The compromise motion, which was passed unanimously by the council, will pay for salaries and equipment for a supplemental deputy city attorney, a hearing officer and a secretary until June, 1986. The extra money will enable the city attorney to prosecute offenders or seek court orders preventing discrimination against people who have contracted acquired immune deficiency syndrome, the deadly and incurable virus that mainly strikes homosexual men.
