Bull Riders Undergo Treatment for Injuries

Bull rider Charles Sampson, taken from the National Finals Rodeo arena Saturday on a stretcher after a goring, suffered a mild concussion and lacerations to the face and head, doctors said.

Another bull rider, Lonnie Wyatt of Kimball, Neb., was taken to a hospital for treatment of possible internal injuries after he was gored in the event, said rodeo Dr. Pat Evans.

“I’m afraid the bulls are the winner this year,” said Evans. “We’ve seen more significant injuries than ever before.”

Sampson, the 1982 world champion from Los Angeles, was swung sideways by his bull and was gored by the side of the bull’s horn as he fell to the ground. The bull then rammed Sampson again before rodeo clowns managed to get the animal away.
