San Diego police are investigating the death of a man who was found Sunday in his Southeast San Diego home, shortly after police received a call from a person at that address saying someone was trying to set him on fire.

The victim was identified by the county coroner’s office as Edward Bernard Jr., 39, whose body was found about 2:15 a.m. at his Naranja Street home. The coroner’s office said Bernard, a city employee, had been stabbed.

According to a police spokesman, the department received a call for help about 2 a.m. from a man “saying someone was trying to set him on fire.” When police arrived, they found one man dead and another badly injured.
