Twenty-one years after stabbing to death his ex-wife’s fiance, Armando Liberati, 65, was sentenced to state prison today by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert T. Altman.

Liberati, finally apprehended in Philadelphia last February when authorities learned he had applied for Social Security benefits under his real name, was found guilty by a jury last month of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Fred Shaheen, a one-time postman. Liberati was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon on his ex-wife, Mary Ann Carter, in the deadly scuffle outside her Hollywood apartment Sept. 12, 1964.

Liberati faces a minimum prison term of four years. Judge Altman asserted that despite his lengthy flight, Liberati still “has not an iota of remorse for his conduct.”
