Share

The Justice Department filed suit against seven nearly all-white Chicago suburbs, charging that they imposed discriminatory residency requirements on job applicants to keep blacks out of municipal jobs. Assistant Atty. Gen. William Bradford Reynolds, head of the department’s civil rights division, said the employment discrimination suits were filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago. The Justice Department charged that the suburbs purposely discriminated against blacks in employment and violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the non-discrimination provisions of the Revenue Sharing Act of 1972.
