Tandon Corp. has hired former IBM executive William L. Sydnes, 41, as vice president-engineering and development, a newly created position.

Sydnes is the third executive involved in launching IBM's Personal Computer in 1981 whom the Chatsworth-based disk drive and personal computer maker has hired in the last six weeks. Sydnes, who was engineering manager for the IBM project, most recently was president of Systems Networks & Peripherals in Moorestown, N.J.
