A 23-year-old former legal firm employee jumped 46 stories to his death Saturday from the Bank of America building in downtown Los Angeles, police said.

Sgt. Bryce Houchin said the man, whose name was withheld pending notification of family members, had resigned Friday from his job as a photo copier. Houchin said the man returned to the Flower Street high-rise Saturday, apparently to collect personal possessions from his desk.

Houchin said the man left his friend in the lobby, then managed to persuade law firm employees to leave him alone in an office. Once alone, the man used a heavy ashtray to break a window and jumped, the sergeant said.
