South Bay : Robbery Suspects Arrested
A burned-out headlight led to the arrests of three teen-age boys believed to have committed 11 armed robberies in five cities in the South Bay over a three-week period, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The teen-agers were taken into custody after deputies stopped their car on Pacific Coast Highway in Lomita for the defective headlight. The officers then saw a handgun under a front seat, Sgt. Joe Eubanks said. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.
During questioning, Eubanks said, the youths, ages 16 and 17, admitted that they committed the robberies, most of them at liquor stores. The juveniles were charged Monday in Inglewood Municipal Court on seven counts of armed robbery, according to the Los Angeles district attorney’s office.
No one was injured during the robberies, Eubanks said. Besides the pellet gun, deputies recovered two sawed-off .22 caliber rifles and a BB gun from the boys’ car, he said. Investigators did not know how much money was taken during the robberies.
