Anaheim : 6 Intersections Will Get Modern Traffic Signals

Share

Motorists cruising through Anaheim won’t have to wait as long for the light to turn green at six busy intersections--but they’ll have to wait until 1987 for the improvements.

The city recently learned that the state will fund a project that will replace old signal equipment at six intersections with new signals that are responsive to traffic.

Whereas the current signals operate on a time clock, the new ones will detect the traffic and “respond to the direction that has the most amount of traffic,” Anaheim associate traffic engineer Daniel F. Schiada said. The new signals will reduce the waiting period as well as the potential for accidents, Schiada said.

The California Department of Transportation will pay 90% of the $334,000 tab to improve the signals at the following intersections: Katella Avenue at Haster Street and Katella Way, La Palma Avenue at Lemon Street, Harbor Boulevard at Orangewood Avenue, East Street at Sycamore Avenue and East Street at La Palma Avenue.
