BYU Defeats Fullerton Women, 89-81
Tresa Spaulding, a 6-foot 8-inch center from Brigham Young University, scored 32 points Friday night to lead the Cougars to an 89-81 win over Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the Cougar Tournament at Provo, Utah. Cathy Nixon added 22 points for BYU (3-5), which will play for the championship tonight.
Nixon made a jump shot with 2:35 remaining that put BYU ahead, 76-75, and the Cougars pulled away. The Titans (1-6) were led by Robin Holmes, who scored 28 points. Fullerton will play for third place tonight.
