THE WRITE STUFF

“Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” the 20th Century Fox film shooting in L.A. with Whoopi Goldberg, may end up being the greatest boon to writers since the residual. Goldberg was probably exaggerating when she told Newsweek (Dec. 30) that the movie’s had 18 writers--but Outtakes has come up with names of at least 10 who have tampered with the story of a workaday secretary who gets involved in spy intrigue.

The latest draft (dated Dec. 10) lists seven--Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers (the originals), David Franzoni, Diane Hammond, M.J. Milworth, Richard Price and Steven De Souza. Outtakes learned that Leon Capetanos was brought in to do some “punch-up” work in NYC, supposedly for $10,000 a day. Director Penny Marshall, who took over for Howard Zeiff in late November, has called in Marty Kurzfeld for revisions. And last week Chris Thompson got the call!
