Rabies Outbreak in Indonesia Kills 7

An outbreak of rabies in several big cities and crowded districts in Central Java has killed seven people and infected more than 200 others, press reports said Saturday.

Dog owners were asked to keep their pets indoors or chained, the Ministry of Health announced.

The provincial animal health section in Central Java’s capital of Semarang said that since the outbreak of rabies in Central Java last June, 9,330 dogs have been found infected and exterminated, the national news agency Antara said.
