Smooth Moves You can’t judge a videocassette by its cover--especially if the “cassette” is really a men’s travel kit designed by skin-care specialist Linda Silver. Named after Silver’s husband, the Roy Travel Kit is based on men’s constant search for a smoother shave. “Men don’t want to hear about collagen and night cream,” she says. “They care about getting rid of razor burn and enlarged pores.” Instead of giving names to the six items in the line, she gave them numbers, because “it’s easier to remember what order to use them in.” Everything is herb-based and free of alcohol, fragrance and wax. Made in Los Angeles, the kit is $80 at Jerry Magnin, Beverly Hills; Ron Ross, Tarzana, and Fred Segal, Santa Monica.

The Rose King Yves Saint Laurent calls it Paris. But his newest, rose-based scent reminds us of Pasadena, especially this Rose Bowl week. And for the night before the big day, YSL’s faceted, rhinestone-tipped, purse-spray-size bottle of Paris makes a gem of an item for a New Year’s evening bag. $55 at May Co. Well Made Two Bunch Palms Mineral Water Products include shave cream and suntan lotion along with the skin-care usuals. For men and women, they’re made with artesian-well water. $10-$30 at Neiman-Marcus. Mystery Man It could be the remake of an old thriller, or an allusion to the other man. But it’s neither. The Third Man is the newest men’s fragrance from Parfums Caron. The scent has a spicy base of cedar and amber, with dashes of nutmeg, cinnamon and lavender. And its package is as mysterious as its name. The bottle is smoky gray, suggesting a foggy night, and encased in a steel-gray box. What more can Caron do to assure you that spice is the variety of life? $18-$40 at the Broadway.
