Glendale Municipal Judge Janice Claire Croft has been appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Gov. George Deukmejian.

The move comes two years after Croft, 38, became a Municipal Court judge. She will replace retired Superior Court Judge Lester E. Olson.

Croft has been assigned to the court’s South Central District in Compton.

Croft, a native of Glendale, began practicing law in 1973 with the Glendale-based firm of Crane, Humphries and Croft. She became a judge in 1983 and served as presiding judge of Glendale Municipal Court last year.

Croft was one of three judges and two commissioners to hear Municipal Court cases in Glendale.

It has been four years since a Glendale judge was appointed to the Superior Court, said Sheila Gonzalez, Municipal Court administrator. The last appointee was Joseph R. Kalin, who is supervising judge in the North Central District and serves from the Glendale courthouse.
