Violent Prisons
Concerning your article (Dec. 22), “California’s Increasingly Violent Prisons,” consider the nature of the beast(s).
If you assume the 50,000-member prison population is largely responsible for California’s daily homicides and assaults, how can a 1984 system-wide total of only 15 fatal prison assaults be labeled as failure?
I only hope and pray that prison authorities are strongly supported and protected in their dangerous service.
