Police, Sheriff’s Deputies to Kick Pigskin for Charity

San Diego police and the county Sheriff’s Department will square off Saturday when the 10th annual Cop’er Bowl kicks off at 3 p.m.

The charity football game is between the San Diego County Deputy Sheriff’s Assn., called Mounties, and the San Diego Police Athletic Federation, called Heat. In the past, the game has raised more than $400,000 for the San Diego County Boys’ & Girls’ Club Foundation. This year’s proceeds will again go to the foundation and to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego.

The Cop’er Bowl is more than just a charity event. “It’s a real athletic event, and the playing is ranked on the junior college level. There is a lot of competition, and, so far, the sheriff’s team has lost every year,” said Sgt. Suzanne Houle, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswomen.

The U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Band will play during half time, and there will be a fireworks display after the game, Houle said.

Tickets are $4 and may be purchased at Gate E of San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium on game day, Houle said.
