Five people were arrested after police attempted to halt a melee at a swap meet near 9th Street and Western Avenue, Los Angeles police said. No one was seriously hurt, said Sgt. William Davidson, who added that the incident was triggered when five security guards served a court order requiring that vendors leave the usually vacant lot. One guard was struck by a fist, and between 60 and 75 people gathered before police arrived, he said. Four people face misdemeanor rioting charges; a fifth was booked for battery.
