Clear Skies and Warmer Days Are on the Way to Southland

Low clouds and intermittent drizzle kept most of Southern California cool and damp Sunday, but the National Weather Service said clear skies and warmer temperatures are on the way.

High temperature at Los Angeles Civic Center Sunday was 67 degrees and the overnight low was 61, which was a record of sorts: The Weather Service said the previous highest minimum temperature for the date was 59 degrees in 1911.

Relative humidity ranged from 84% to 73%, and 0.11 of an inch of rain was recorded in Central Los Angeles, bringing the season’s total to exactly 4 inches. That is just a little over half the amount that had fallen by this time last year, but less than an inch below the 4.91 inches that would be statistically normal.

The Weather Service said the storm system that kept Southern California damp last week is moving away to the east at the urging of a high-pressure area building along the coast.

The result, meteorologists said, should be a few more hours of dark and damp skies followed by a general clearing by late afternoon, and a slow but steady rise of temperatures through the rest of the week.
