SEATTLE —
O’Toole, the first giant octopus in captivity to be reared from larval form, has died of old age at the Seattle Aquarium, officials said Tuesday.
Aquarium officials said that O’Toole died of natural causes on Dec. 29. The 3-year-old octopus weighed 65 pounds and had tentacles 5 feet long.
The aquarium last September received the Edward H. Bean Award, the highest award given by the American Assn. of Zoological Parks and Aquariums, for outstanding achievement in the captive propagation of wildlife.
