The Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League reached an out-of-court settlement with the attorney general’s office in Austin, Tex., that calls for the team to provide $556,353 in back pay for the coaches, players, cheerleaders and other employees who had not been paid in four months.
Attorney General Jim Mattox said he was prepared to take the case to court had team owners Jerry Argovitz, Alvin Lubetkin and Jay Roulier not agreed to pay complete back wages to the 100 employees involved.
