The UCLA women’s basketball team, still searching for a consistent performance, will play host to the UCLA-MacGregor tournament beginning tonight at Pauley Pavilion.

In the first round, UC Santa Barbara will play New Mexico at 6, then the Bruins will play Northern Arizona at 8.

The Bruins (6-7) are coming off a two-game trip to Louisiana. UCLA lost to Louisiana Tech, 73-59, then beat New Orleans, 79-59. Anne Dean, a senior guard, scored a career-high 30 points against New Orleans and is the leading scorer for UCLA with an average of 13.7 points a game. Sophomore forward Dora Dome is second at 13.6, and junior forward Shari Biggs is third at 11.8.

Northern Arizona (7-5) finished fourth in the University of San Francisco’s tournament last weekend. Guard Julie Hanks was named to the all-tournament team as she averaged 14.5 points a game.

Santa Barbara (4-8) lost Wednesday night to Cal State Fullerton, 52-51. The Gauchos have four starters scoring in double figures, led by senior forward Kristen Nicholson with a 13.3 average.

New Mexico (1-8) got its only victory of the season Wednesday night, beating Hawaii Pacific, 94-91, in Hawaii. Among their other problems, the Lobos are a small team and short on point production. They are led by junior center Tracy Satran, who is averaging 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds a game.
