Man Who Aided Brink’s Heist Gets 5 Years
A five-year sentence has been handed down in federal court in San Francisco to a former Brink’s employee who admitted feeding inside information to fellow neo-Nazis about the route of an armored car that was robbed of $3.6 million.
U.S. District Judge William Orrick imposed the sentence Friday on Charles Ostrout, 52, who told the judge that he “knew nothing about what (the group was) doing,” apart from robbing Brink’s.
The group, called the Order, has been implicated by authorities in several robberies and two murders, including the June, 1984, machine-gun slaying of Alan Berg, a Denver radio talk show host.
Ostrout of Lookout, in Modoc County, was a money room manager of Brink’s San Francisco office.
In April, he pleaded guilty to racketeering involving the armed robbery of a Brink’s truck in July, 1984, in Ukiah.
He was also a prosecution witness at a recent Seattle trial in which 10 Order members were convicted of racketeering.
