An Anaheim car wash owner and two others were wounded when four unidentified men pulled out guns as they were paying for their car wash, police reported Sunday.

No motive has been established for the shooting, which occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday at the State College Car Wash at 400 State College Blvd. in Anaheim. The four men fled in a stolen car.

“Our investigation revealed that the car wash was closing, the suspects were about to pay for having their car washed and they suddenly displayed weapons and started shooting,” Anaheim Police Sgt. Michael Murphy said.

“There’s no indication that we’re aware of that it was an attempted robbery,” Murphy said, though he added that police have not yet ruled out a robbery. It was not known whether any of the victims knew the gunmen.

The car wash owner, Robert Chang, 48, was reported in good condition at UCI Medical Center, but his son, Frank, 21, was in critical condition after surgery.

A customer identified as Michael Mitchell, 30, of Anaheim, also shot during the incident, was reported to be in stable condition at Anaheim Memorial Hospital.

Murphy said that the four men were reportedly in their early 20s and that one of them was said to be wearing a black jacket and white pants.

The car they were driving, a white 1984 Dodge Colt, license 1LIA581, was recently reported stolen in Hollywood, police said.
