Capri Dump Suit Settled

The state of California and the city of Los Angeles today settled their 5-year-old lawsuit against Capri Pumping Service and its owner, Refugio Carrasco, agreeing to accept the payment of more than $300,000 in costs and civil penalties rather than go through a trial.
Deputy Atty. Gen. Susan L. Durbin said the state will receive $288,000 in costs and $50,000 in civil penalties from Carrasco, his wife, Genevieve, and A&R; Vacuum Trucking Co. The agreement also permanently prohibits the defendants from storing and treating hazardous wastes at the former East Los Angeles dump site.
