Utah Jazz Ends 5-Game Losing Streak by Beating San Antonio Spurs, 106-102
The Utah Jazz, playing without league-leading scorer Adrian Dantley, ended a five-game losing streak Sunday night by defeating the San Antonio Spurs, 106-102, behind Thurl Bailey’s 20 points.
The Jazz erased an early deficit and slowly pulled away from the Spurs in the second half.
Forward Karl Malone and guard John Stockton added 17 points each for Utah, with guard Bob Hansen contributing 13 and center Mark Eaton 10.
For San Antonio, forward Mike Mitchell led with 22 points, with center Artis Gilmore scoring 19 and guard Alvin Robertson 17.
Dantley, out with a left hip pointer, did not accompany the Jazz on their current four-game trip.
The Spurs, down 97-86 late in the game, ran off nine straight points to pull to within two, at 97-95. But Hansen ended Utah’s drought and stymied the San Antonio rally with a 10-foot jump shot at 1:38 to play.
From that point, the Jazz moved the ball inside to Bailey, who hit two clutch jump shots down the stretch to seal the victory.
Utah improved to 18-21, while San Antonio fell to 21-17.
